The time is once again upon us where we require support from our wonderful volunteers of Freeman’s Wood!
Next volunteer date: Sunday 26th July, 11am -1pm (approx)
Meeting Place: The new accessible path finger-post
What Three Words: owls.feel.crest
For those who have not joined us before, there are two main accessible routes into Freeman’s Wood as outlined in the yellow markings on the map in the comments section. One from New Quay Road, and one along the footpath to the side of the woods. For those who are steady on their feet, there is a quicker route (marked red) across Coronation Field from Willow Lane, walking across Coronation Field to the upgraded Lucy Brook entrance. Please be mindful that this route is undulating, with some low-hanging branches through the wood.
Tasks for June:
Session Leaders: Shawn Duckers and Jon Barry.
There will be three tasks this month:
1. Recreating a former path near to the Lucy Brook entrance. We will need secateurs or similar equipment to cut brambles and/or small trees with (e.g. pruning saw).
2. Putting a deer guard on one of our newly-planted black poplars and pruning back deer damage (equipment will be provided for this)
3. Making the cycle track entrance more tractor-friendly for when the meadow is cut.
Whatever you do, gloves are important as is covering-up to protect yourself from horse fly attacks (one species of wildlife we are promoting very well).
These sessions are open to all, so even if you would like to join us for the social side of things with family and have a natter in nature, then please feel free to come along and say hello.
